I had lunch today with some of the kids at LSI’s Beloit Residential Treatment Center.

As usual, Beloit staff had a great idea and started inviting LSI Ames campus staff to join the kids this summer for occasional BBQs. Today it was hot dogs, carrots, watermelon and Rice Krispies treats.

But it wasn’t just that. It was the kids, who for one reason or another, haven’t had those healthy casual interactions with adults. It was the kids talking about their favorite sports, what they want to do when they grow up, and eating a little sugar.

For everything these kids have endured and what struggles they face to overcome it, they’re just kids.

Thanks to the Beloit staff who always think of creative ways to make every day at LSI a learning experience, and more importantly, an improvement in a child’s life.
